Description
The Samsung large 2,500-gallon external refrigerator filter sits on the refrigerator’s water inlet line and offers a higher capacity than ordinary filters for longer use. This model connects to a 1/4-inch hose and is a practical, hassle-free choice for people with higher water consumption.
Features of the Samsung Large Rear-Mounted Water Filter
This external side-by-side refrigerator water filter has a standard construction and filters the water, removing impurities entering the ice maker and dispenser system. In addition to improving the taste and odor of the water, using this filter helps prevent scale build-up and damage to the internal parts and the solenoid valve of the appliance.
- Filtration capacity: 2,500 gallons (about 9,460 liters) of water
- Dimensions: 30 cm long and 6 cm in diameter (large 12-inch model)
- Approximate weight: about 500 g
- Material: granular activated carbon with a 100% plant-based source (coconut shell) and a durable, food-grade body
- Filter location: external (outside the refrigerator); installed on the water inlet hose at the back of the side-by-side with quick-fit fittings
- Certifications: holds international water health certifications and standards, including NSF/ANSI 42
This filter has a direct effect on the clarity of the ice and the purity of the output water.
Replacing the Samsung External Filter
External (rear-mounted) filters have a higher capacity than internal models and sit on the water inlet hose. To replace this large inline model, follow the steps below:
- First, fully close the refrigerator’s water inlet valve (under the sink or behind the appliance).
- Release the pins or fittings at both ends of the old filter and disconnect the hose. If the hose ends are damaged or bent, cut them perfectly straight with a cutter.
- Initial flush (very important): connect the inlet hose to the inlet side of the new filter (opposite the FLOW arrow). Place a container underneath, open the water and let it run for about 30 seconds so the black water and initial carbon come out. Then close the valve.
- Now connect the outlet hose (toward the refrigerator) to the filter outlet (the direction of the FLOW arrow) and tighten the fittings.
- Open the water valve, check the connections for leaks, and dispense about 2 to 3 liters of water from the paddle until the circuit runs completely clear.
Upgrade tip: if filtration quality and the taste of the water are a higher priority for you, you can also consider the two-stage Aqua Pure model as an alternative.
