How to Install the LG Cup-Type Filter
The original short LG cup-type filter made in Mexico (technical ID 5231JA2002A) is a factory-grade, high-quality part for the internal filtration of LG side-by-side refrigerators. Because of its short cylindrical dimensions, this model is known as a cup type. To replace it properly and avoid damaging the valve, follow the steps below:
- Close the water inlet valve to the refrigerator. To relieve circuit pressure and prevent water spray, press the dispenser paddle for a few seconds.
- Open the filter compartment door (usually in the upper ceiling or the inner wall). Turn the old filter a quarter turn (90 degrees) to the left (counter-clockwise) and pull it straight out.
- Remove the hygienic cap from the new 5231JA2002A filter. Insert the filter perfectly upright into the housing, push it upward and turn it a quarter turn to the right (clockwise) until you hear the tab lock.
- Open the water inlet valve. Then dispense and discard about 3 to 5 liters of water from the dispenser paddle so the air in the housing is purged and the initial activated carbon fines are flushed out.
Leak test and alert reset: after installation, dry the area around the filter and check the connections to make sure there are no leaks. Finally, hold the Filter Reset or Water Filter button on the refrigerator’s digital panel for 3 seconds so the filter replacement timer resets.
