Replacing the Whirlpool Side-by-Side Filter (Long Dual-Stage Model)
The Whirlpool EDR3RXD1 water filter (known as the long dual-stage) is located at the bottom of the appliance, just below the freezer door (behind the base grille). To replace it properly, follow the steps below.
Resetting the filter alarm: after installation, hold the Filter Reset button (or the dedicated filter key on the Whirlpool panel) for 3 seconds so the timer resets and the warning light turns off.
Risks of not replacing the filter: using a water filter for more than a year leads to the build-up of bacteria and sediment and a sharp drop in water pressure. This not only lowers water quality and can cause algae growth inside the circuit, but also puts extra strain on the refrigerator’s solenoid valve, which may burn out and lead to costly repairs.
